Oct. 26, 2008: Roanoke Valley SPCA held its 16th Annual Walk for the Animals in Elmwood Park. Jean Jadhon, WDBJ7 anchor and radio station K92 were the main sponsors of the event. Weatherman Brent Watts was one of the judges.

There was a “dog walk” around through downtown though it could be argued that Amy Sparks’ Great Perinese was walking her. The walk culminated with a costume contest with categories for the scariest, cutest, and the owner that looked most like his dog. It was a tough call except for the look a-like contest. Shawn Mason and his Wolf Hound, Cider, won that category hands down. Jean Jadhon claimed that Cider looked more like weatherman Robin Reed but Robin was not there to defend himself.

Kujo, a Saint Bernard with red coloring dribbled on his fur won scariest. Emily Nichols with three varieties of dogs dressed as cops and robbers won cutest. Kathy Perdue, Marketing Director and Special Events Coordinator for the SPCA was in charge of the fundraiser and said they raised $30,000 and she was still counting.
