ACLU Virginia is looking for same-sex committed couples

The US Supreme Court struck down Section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act upheld a lower court’s ruling allowing the state of California to resume same-sex marriages again.

Please see the following message from Chris Hampton at ACLU Virginia asking same-sex couples to share their stories in the pursuit of marriage equality.

Help Make Relationship Protections a Reality for
Same-Sex Couples in Virginia!

I’m working with the ACLU of Virginia, Lambda Legal, and Equality Virginia in a joint effort to gain legal protections for same-sex couples in Virginia. We know that getting these protections will take real couples who are willing to come forward publicly to share stories about their love and commitment.

We’re looking for same-sex couples in Virginia who would like formal legal recognition of their relationships and would be willing to tell their stories to the public. We hope to find a diverse variety of people from different parts of the state and many walks of life.  Please help us by using your website, Facebook or other social networking page, email lists, or newsletter to ask same-sex couples to fill out our online relationship survey. We’re on a tight schedule to launch this project, so we need interested couples to fill out the survey as soon as possible.

I’ll then be reaching out to some of the respondents about how their stories might be able to help in this effort. This is NOT a fundraising thing, I promise!  Nobody’s name or story will be used without contacting them for permission first, and filling out the form does not obligate respondents in any way – this is just a preliminary contact and the information in the form will be kept confidential.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. We very much appreciate your help.

Thank you!
