Chopra Announces Online Grassroots Network
ARLINGTON, VA – Virginia Democratic candidate for Lieutenant Governor, Aneesh Chopra, announced the endorsements of Congressman Jim Moran (D-8th) and former Congressman Rick Boucher (D-9th) today.
“Virginians voted to move our country forward with the re-election of President Barack Obama and Tim Kaine’s victory in the Senate race. But we have more work to do to implement an agenda that will ensure continued economic growth and a strong middle class,” Moran said. “I am confident that Aneesh is ready to lead in Virginia with a vision that includes smart investments to grow an innovation economy, and ensure Virginia’s workers have the skills to compete. Aneesh has a commitment to Democratic values that will strengthen our belief in the American Dream,” said Moran. “That is why I am proud to announce my support for him today.”
Boucher added, “Aneesh Chopra has been my friend and partner on advancing the nation’s technology economy, including expanding access to affordable broadband services in our rural communities, including Southwest Virginia. He’s also been a champion for the needs of our workers who shouldn’t have to move to find a high paying job that will last. His work to launch the “PlugGEDInVa” initiative in 2009 is just one example of giving hope to middle class Virginians to connect to the jobs of the future.”
Gov. Bob McDonnell chose to scale the PluggedInVA initiative statewide earlier this year.
Chopra noted, “On election night, President Obama challenged us to come together through the ‘hard and frustrating but necessary work of self-government’. I am running to lead Virginians in that collaborative spirit to grow the high-wage, high-skill jobs of the future, in all corners of the Commonwealth, so that this generation and the next can offer a good life for our families.”
Chopra also announced the launch of teamchopra.org, a growing network of supporters across Virginia who believe in his vision for the future, and who will actively participate in the months ahead. Chopra is encouraging all Virginians who want to work collaboratively in solving some of our Commonwealth’s biggest challenges, to join Moran and Boucher in supporting his candidacy, and sign up at TeamChopra.org
“I am humbled and honored to receive the support of two great friends and public servants. Jim and Rick have fought for Virginia families for decades and I am thrilled that they have joined me in a movement to deliver better results in all corners of the Commonwealth,” Chopra continued.
