Countryside in Jeopardy Again

SignAlvin Nash is no longer on Council to guide Roanoke City Council on the golf course’s possibilities. First the golf course needs at most $1.2 million to upgrade the the irrigation system and cart paths and not $3 million. Second the 10-year lease in the Request For Proposal (RFP) can be terminated by the City after 5 years. Renewal for additional 5-years is dependent on the City’s perceived performance by the operator. This caveat will deter those who would otherwise make improvements. Without a firm commitment for a 10-year lease anyone who knows how the City of Roanoke operates will see that after 5-years the City could make any excuse to “yank” the lease no matter how well the operator maintains the property. Remember the closing of the Market building “for cleaning.” I can see we are closing Countryside for “safety reasons” or some such other contrived excuse.
