“Dickie” Cranwell,

the current Chair of the Democratic Party of Virginia and  former House Majority Leader had decided in December to not seek reelection as the party chair. Cranwell was even considering a run for Lt. Governor.  Today in a letter he  has decided to put his  name in for reelection. Cranwell sees the Republican party in disarray. The Democratic party in Virginia remains “stable” and united. Cranwell wants to make sure that Virginia’s governorship stays in the Democrat column. Cranwell appeared here in Roanoke at Terry McAculiffe’s town hall meeting but was noncommittal in his support for McAuliffe.

State Senator John Edwards in a phone call said “it is important to keep the continuity going to retain the governor’s mansion,”  Edwards was hopeful that all the State offices are filled by Democrats and he was glad to hear Cranwell is open to another term as Chair. Edwards when asked indicated that it is unlikely he will be announcing for Attorney General. He has an appointment for an interview for the 4th District Court of Appeals  scheduled which includes U.S. Senator Jim Webb.
