A one month delay in completion of Elmwood Park has been announced by Roanoke City.

The delay is a result of the heavy rains that prevented MB Contractors from working at the site. The date set for the first event has been rescheduled  for Saturday, October 19 barring any further weather delays.

On October 19, the city’s Parks and Arts Program will conclude its series of activities with a performance of “Peter and the Wolf” by the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra and the Southwest Virginia Ballet, which will be the first performance in the park’s amphitheater.

Other performers and visual art activities will also be showcased as part of the activities.

The city says local contractors are working diligently to finish the project. In addition, construction of the Library Terrace is ongoing and the completion of this component of the park is projected for November. A special event to be held in the park is in the early planning stages and will be scheduled for spring 2014 to kick off the festival season.
