According to information just received the Urban Professional League will host a candidate forum for all candidates seeking to fill Delegate Onzlee Ware’s 11th district HOD seat. Ware will vacate his seat at the end of the year before the 2014 General Assembly Session.

The date for the forum is December 3 at 6:30 p.m. at William Fleming High School. The candidates who have announced or publicly have made their intention to seek the Democratic nomination are Councilman Dave Trinkle, Vice Mayor Court Rosen, Patrician White-Boyd, Sam Rasoul and Keith Wheaton. These candidates for the Firehouse Primary have until Wednesday, November 27 at 5:00 p.m. to file and pay their $1000 filing fee to the Roanoke City Democratic Committee.

Keith L. Wheaton withdraws – four other candidates file by today’s deadline

The Republican nominee is Sheriff Octavia Johnson. Caleb Coulter. The Firehouse Primary for the Roanoke City Republican Committee is December 10. Coulter failed to properly file by the November 29 deadline.

All candidates are invited. This may be the only chance for voters to size up the candidates and learn more about those they are unfamiliar with. They may be serving as your delegate for a very long time. Making a mistake is not an option.

Octavia Johnson declared Republican nominee for special election

Sure hope someone asks David Trinkle about his failure to pay taxes. That’s a real problem, and I’m not sure he’s someone we can trust as delegate.

Four years ago, he voted for a meals tax on city restaurants – and then he was delinquent paying taxes for his own restaurants (Fork in the City, Fork in the Alley) multiple times! Talk about hypocrisy.

We need someone we can count on and that’s NOT David Trinkle. No thanks.

Hey Chris, It’s my understanding that Dave Trinkle fixed his tax filing issue years ago. (The joys of owning and running your own business).

I have a sneaking suspicion that he has probably paid far more City Taxes than you and I combined – many times over.

I don’t think it is fair at all to make this issue look intentional. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

Lame excuse Jay. The guy is a deadbeat and he knows it. So what is excuse for not paying rents and even worse not paying employees…. Last month.

The truth about Dave Trinkle will come out.

Ummm, are we talking about the same Dave Trinkle? The guy that is an associate Dean at the Medical School? A practicing Doctor? City Council member? Vice Mayor of Roanoke twice? Vice Chair of the School Board? Chair of the Regional Commission? Past president of the Psychiatric Society of Virginia? Owner of multiple business ventures? …deadbeat? Really??

I don’t know too many people in this community that care about Roanoke more or work as hard as Dave Trinkle.

The Dave Trinkle I know is a good man and doesn’t deserve cheap shots.

Yeah. The one that checks bounced on us. And who did the same things during the last council race he was in and was giving his political campaigns money from the restaurant and also way behind on food and beverage taxes.

Same Dave Trinkle.

Dave Trinkle is a first class guy. He works harder than anybody and it shows. He is a true leader and has been since he was about 15. Having known Dave all my life (since pre-school) and all through college and present day I feel these disparaging remarks are unjust. I do not consider myself a Democrat by any stretch of the imagination ,but, Dave Trinkle will always have my vote.

Neil – you obviously never relied on him for a paycheck. Sure the guy is great to get drunk with (alot). Not when you need a paycheck though. Or in paying bills. Fact is fact.
