Governor Terry McAuliffe
RICHMOND – Governor McAuliffe today announced that, following a thorough legal review of the case, he will commute the death sentence of Ivan Teleguz to life imprisonment without parole. Teleguz’s request for a pardon will be denied. Teleguz was convicted in the murder-for-hire of Stephanie Yvonne Sipe in July 2001. He was scheduled to be executed on April 25.
Announcing his decision at the Virginia State Capitol today, Governor McAuliffe delivered the following statement (as prepared):

Dan Casey Challenged to Bare It All
With the first @WSLS “breaking news” tweet I thought of one person. No it wasn’t River Laker. It wasn’t the victims of the prank at 202 Market – though I expect they are totally pissed at being charged by the ABC board.
No alcohol in combination with stripping is allowed in Virginia.
My first thoughts were of Dan Casey, The Roanoke Times columnist, blogger, and lover of the naked male physique. Before you think that I have a hankering to see Dan naked let me dispel that notion [gasp] now.
Dan must have tripped over, stepped on, and made audible screeching sounds in a breakneck blog post about 202 Market getting charged for River Laker’s surprise striptease Valentine’s fundraiser.
However, Dan is beginning to worry me with his preoccupation with Mr. Laker’s nakedness. Art is in the eye of the beholder and Dan doth “behold” too much me thinketh.
I can see Dan will milk this for all it’s worth and he will have plenty of opportunity as this issue works through to the ABC hearing. Then if 202 Market is fined – will they sue Mr. Laker, then as an employee of Roanoke City will he be reprimanded or worse?
What say we have Dan perform a striptease fundraiser at a NON-alcoholic establishment for the charity of his choice. If Roanoke City doesn’t mind their employee stripping on his own time I’m sure Debbie Meade would be OK with Dan doing the same. It would be good for circulation – I think. Give it a try Dan. A worthy charity awaits.
I’ll start the bidding at $2! Do I hear $3?
