Governor’s letter to Secretary on Health and Human Services

Governor McDonnell asks for alternatives to the Affordable Care Act

In a letter to Kathleen Sebelius, Secretary on Health and Human Services Governor McDonnell says the Affordable Healthcare Act is fundamentally flawed. McDonnell is confident that the U.S. Supreme Court will eventually rule the PPACA unconstitutional.

It unconstitutionally infringes on personal choice and would undermine the insurance industry. McDonnell asks to allow states alternatives such as flexibility in operating insurance exchanges, waivers to mandates, move non-disabled Medicaid recipients into the exchanges and verifying incomes and subsidy amounts for exchange participation.
