May Neighborhood Month – OSW Tests Dog Park

May is the beginning of a month where Roanoke City neighborhoods showcase their neighborhood with a variety of events. Most include lots of food and fun for the kids. The Old Southwest neighborhood held their picnic event in Highland Park. The dog park will not officially open for a few weeks yet but testing it – well they could not resist. Since the City Manager, Darlene Burcham, showed up unexpectedly and caught them in the act I saw no harm in letting the  “cat”  “dog” out of the bag.

Burcham said, “she saw nothing” smiling knowingly. She did mention the “Queen Darlene” article and seemed a bit unnerved by it. She could not understand why she was not consulted and given an opportunity to voice her response in The Roanoker magazine.

Burcham was the only official visiting OSW. Let us hope the Mayor and Council members show support for the neighborhoods by visiting the many other upcoming neighborhood events.
