Mayor to speak on city transportation issues at VDOT public hearing

Location is at VDOT Salem Branch, 731 Harrison at 6:00 p.m. Thursday
Roanoke, VA -The Mayor’s Office announces that Mayor David Bowers will speak about city transportation issues on behalf of the City of Roanoke at a public hearing on VDOT’s FY 2012-2117 Six-Year Improvement Program on Thursday, May 12. Mayor Bowers will comment on the importance of moving forward with the design of the Valley View Boulevard interchange and request that VDOT do everything in its power to ensure that the project remains in the six-year program and on schedule. In addition, he will address concerns that VDOT’s six-year program contains no additional funding for any urban project through 2016 for the Roanoke region, and talk about the importance of the proposed bus connection between Roanoke and Lynchburg to provide residents of the Roanoke and New River Valleys access to passenger rail service from Lynchburg to Washington, DC and beyond.
