The press release from Congressman Morgan Griffith’s campaign erroneously stated that the American Farm Bureau Federation endorsed Griffith. (“Griffith Endorsed by Farm Bureau”)

In a phone call to Tracy Grondine, Public Relations Director for the American Farm Bureau Federation she stated Griffith did receive an award and that these awards are given out several times a year to various people.

Grodine went on to say “we do not endorse anyone at AFBF.” The Virginia Farm Bureau does not endorse federal candidates. “He has not been endorsed by anyone,” she said. Griffith did receive the “Friend of Farm Bureau Award for voting on our priority issues.”

10/2/12: CHRISTIANSBURG, VA – Congressman Morgan Griffith has been awarded the American Farm Bureau Federation’s “Friend of Farm Bureau” award for his commitment to farmers and agriculture.

“Agriculture is one of Southwest Virginia’s largest industries, and I am proud to stand up for farmers and other members of the agriculture community on the issues they care about,” said Griffith. “It is an honor to receive this award.”

The award is based on Congressman Griffith’s voting record on the American Farm Bureau Federation’s priority issues. Those issues are established by a board of directors. Other factors include legislation that has been sponsored or co-sponsored and the accessibility and responsiveness of a member to local Farm Bureau groups.

“Everywhere I go across Southwest Virginia, I see and talk with members of Farm Bureau. My office works very hard to stay connected with these community leaders. One of my top priorities as Congressman is serving constituents and I am thankful to the Farm Bureau for what they contribute to the public dialogue.”

Virginia Farm Bureau Federation President Wayne Pryor said that Griffith’s “attention to tedious amendments and the marathon pace of the federal legislation” is reflected in his designation as a friend of Farm Bureau.

Griffith was honored Monday with the National Association of Manufacturers Award for Manufacturing Legislative Excellence. This award is presented to legislators who consistently support a pro-growth, pro-jobs agenda. Griffith was given an outstanding 92% rating by the NAM.

Griffith has been endorsed by the  National Rifle Association, who gave Congressman Griffith an A+ rating for his commitment to defending the rights of gun owners across Southwest Virginia.  Griffith says his opponent failed to answer their federal questionnaire.

Congressman Morgan Griffith was endorsed recently by the Virginia Society for Human Life, who called him a leader that has shown a commitment to pro-life principles. “I am pro-life and am proud to stand up for the principles and values that have made our country and our people strong,” said Griffith

9th congressional district Republican incumbent Morgan Griffith is being challenged by Democrat Anthony Flaccavento. Flaccavento has been endorsed by the AFL-CIO; an umbrella federation made up of 56 unions.
