One of Nine Council Applicants Set for “mad dash to the clerk’s office”

Your next City Council member requests a police escort with sirens blaring, please. All Roanoke City Council applicants received this message today and must have their car running to make it to the clerks office to be sworn in prior to briefings that start at 10:00 AM:

On behalf of the City Clerk, this is to advise you that the Council will take action on Monday, March 2 at 9:00 a.m., in the Council Chamber to fill the unexpired term of Alvin L. Nash. It is not necessary for you to be present because the meeting will be televised on RVTV, Channel 3.Immediately following the election, my office will notify the successful candidate. An Oath of Office must be administered by a Circuit Court Judge prior to assuming the duties of the Council Member, which Oath must be picked up in the City Clerk’s Office. (A Judge will be available between 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. Monday for the administering of the Oath.)Upon the administering of the Oath of Office, you may attend the informal session of Council which will be held in the EOC Conference Room, Room159, First Floor, Noel C. Taylor Municipal Building. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me or any member of the City Clerk’s staff at 853-2541.
