Political action group claims petition kept FOX from Helen Thomas’ seat

The best seat in the White House Correspondents Association went to the AP. Though CREDO Action had preferred that NPR get the coveted front row center seat they were pleased that it did not go to FOX. FOX, NPR, and Bloomberg News were vying for Thomas’ seat.

Helen Thomas, 89 was the first female member of the White House Correspondents Association. Thomas who is of Lebanese decent was forced to resign by her employer, Hearst Newspaper when she was caught on tape saying that Jews should “get the hell out of Palestine.”

According to CREDO: “In just four days, over 311,000 CREDO Action members and 180,000 MoveOn members — over 491,000 people — petitioned the board of the White House Correspondents Association and asked them not to give the best seat in the White House press briefing room to the rightwing noise machine’s key propaganda outlet.”

FOX was moved to the front row taking the AP seat and NPR moved to the second row taking the vacated FOX seat. Symbols matter said CREDO who claimed there was an internal bias toward FOX.

In an e-mail thanking supporters who signed the petition CREDO stated: “We need the country’s most influential reporters to put journalistic principles before any kind of loyalty they feel to fellow members of the elite club which is the White House press corps.”

“… outside pressure helped change the terms of the debate, and forced the White House Correspondents Association to confront the real issue: FOX News is a right-wing propaganda outlet not a legitimate news agency.”
