Amtrak in Lynchburg
Valley Metro and Amtrak are joining forces to offer a new, seamless process for reserving seats for travel on the Smart Way Connector bus from Roanoke and Blacksburg to Lynchburg, and on Amtrak to Washington, D.C. and points North. Persons traveling to Roanoke and Blacksburg via the Amtrak connection to Lynchburg may also reserve seats for continued ground transportation service on the Smart Way Connector bus through the Amtrak website. Effective Aug. 5, travelers can go directly to the Amtrak website at www.amtrak.com and reserve passage on both the Smart Way Connector bus and Amtrak with one transaction. The ability to make a reservation for the Smart Way Connector bus via Amtrak will make the reservation process easier and convenient.
The current $4 Smart Way Connector bus fare will be added to the cost of the Amtrak online reservation so that only one payment is required for the bus and train ride. The Smart Way Connector service will still be available to passengers without reservations.
“The transition to the Amtrak reservation system will enhance the passenger’s travel experience,” says Valley Metro General Manager Carl Palmer. “It will allow each passenger to purchase a trip
reservation on the Connector while purchasing their train reservation-a one-stop shop convenience for seamless service from the Connector to the Amtrak train and on to your final destination.”
In addition, Valley Metro is pleased to announce that this convenient bus/train connection will now be available on all observed holidays such as Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, Memorial Day and Independence Day.
Please go to www.amtrak.com to verify departure times on holidays.
For more information about this service, visit the Smart Way Connector web site at www.smartwaybus.com or call Valley Metro at 540-982-2222 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
