RICHMOND – The Virginia Credit Union League, a trade association representing the Commonwealth’s 194 not-for-profit credit unions and the 3 million member-owners residing in Virginia, announced today that is has endorsed Bob McDonnell in his campaign for governor.

“Virginia’s credit unions are proud to endorse Bob McDonnell for governor,” said Virginia Credit Union League President Rick Pillow. “While credit unions have continued to lend and have successfully managed what has been a challenging economic downturn, we understand that Virginia’s next governor must make the economy and jobs creation his top priority. Bob McDonnell has a solid plan to get Virginia’s economy back on track and create jobs, and Virginia’s credit unions stand ready to help him implement his plan by lending to small businesses and maintaining Virginia’s world-class workforce by helping member-owners finance a college education or job training opportunities.”

Speaking about the endorsement, Bob McDonnell remarked, “In just the last eleven days I have been honored to receive endorsements from Virginia’s farmers, Virginia’s realtors, and now Virginia’s credit unions. These endorsements are a further demonstration of the broad support our campaign is finding statewide. We are running a positive, ideas-based campaign to bring Virginians together to create the new jobs and more opportunities Virginians need. Virginia’s credit union’s do this everyday. They help Virginians grow their businesses, create jobs, and take advantage of their own opportunities while providing opportunities for their fellow citizens. I am honored to have received the endorsement of the men and women of Virginia’s credit unions. They understand what we need to get our economy back on track, and they know our campaign is the one with the ideas and the vision to spark an economic resurgence in Virginia in the years ahead.”
