Virginia Education Association endorses Edwards for Virginia Senate

Roanoke, VA -The Virginia Education Association (VEA) has endorsed incumbent John Edwards in the District 21 race for Virginia State Senate.

The decision to endorse Edwards was based on his legislative record and on results of a questionnaire and interview process. Kitty J. Boitnott, President of the VEA, cited the need to restore cuts to public education funding, and the link between public education and preparing Virginia’s children for tomorrow’s jobs.

The very real challenges of fully funding public education are compounded by the chronic transportation infrastructure problems faced statewide.

Edwards’ opponent has consistently supported budgets that reduce spending on K-12 education in Virginia, including the original version of the 2011 budget which would have taken $150 million from the general fund to pay for the Governor McDonnell’s transportation plan. Senator Edwards commented, “That bill would have taken money directly away from schools to fix potholes.”
